The Town Crier (Parts 1 and 2)

Say… remember back in my first or second post, when I said I would be the Town Crier?

Well, I have a couple of items to put on the Town Crier’s watch list: MyRA and the Vice President’s sound byte from last week.

[[My serious stuff hasn’t been noticed by Glen Beck, yet.  I haven’t received the much-coveted job offer from TheBlaze. Yet.  (Radio, TV, Website? I don’t care!)  So, I’m going to try some political humor.  Who knows, maybe Jay Leno needs someone to write jokes for him, now that he’s really retired from NBC.  Your loss, NBC; your loss.]]

Coming Soon! From the Treasury Department, a new retirement plan able to leap Social Security in a single bound! It’s a savings account! No. It’s high yield bearer bond! No. It’s MyRA!! Everyone knows that the Social Security check, isn’t enough to retire on by itself. [[That’s why one Party attempts to scare the pensioners every election cycle by saying the other will make them choose between eating cat food and paying the light bill.  I’m just sayin’.]] So, along comes the ever-benevolent Treasury Department to save the day! They’re offering the MyRA!

That means in Mine, right? It’s right there in the name – My -RA.

Weeeeell, let’s look under the cape there and see if he flies under his own power or if that’s a clumsy jetpack of some sort, hmmm?

The MyRA is invested in US Government securities, mid-grade, not the top T-Bills. The securities employed are thirty-year securities, meaning the government promises to pay back your principal plus some modest interest – after decades! So, what if you need it for car repairs next week? What if, indeed? Like all current US Government securities, today’s investment in ‘your’ MyRA will be rolled into the general fund and spent tomorrow, or maybe next week.

This sounds more like a tax, than an investment.

Aaaaand last week, the Vice President said this of illegal immigrants, “…in my mind, they’re Americans already.”

Was this just good ole’ VP Joe being Joe? Was it another example like this quote from the 2012 Campaign,a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs.”

Or this example, from 2006, ”You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent…. I’m not joking.”

Maybe it was. But if we connect this dot, “…in my mind, they’re Americans already,” to another recent quote from a high-ranking Democrat official…

A few weeks ago Donna Braziel, Vice Chair of the Democrat National Committee, said this about Immigration Reform, “…we won’t settle for ‘legal status.’ We want them [illegal immigrants] voting, as soon as possible.”

Now, that’s only two dots. Hardly a trend. So, we’ll keep a sharp eye out here at StThomas Place and we’ll let you know whether it was just VP Joe, being Joe, or if he was tipping the Democrat Party’s hand like he did with the gay marriage issue in the 2012 campaign.
